Easter Holidays and Chicken Pox

Josh finished Pre-school last week for the Easter holidays and then Monday morning we got up and I noticed some spots on his front near his neck.  Well as the week has gone on the number of spots have increased.  Oh well, better to get chicken pox while still young but still not much fun.  We have been bathing him in peppermint oil and rubbing in aloe vera gel when he allows (it tickles me!).

Being fairly housebound, apart from taking the dog out, has meant we have had the chance to build houses and get some knitting done.  The latest project is Flair which I am knitting up for Great British Yarns, my local yarn store.  Also on the needles is February Lady Sweater, the idea was to start this in February but it didn't happen then or in March.  I haven't actually got very far yet but will take some pictures in due course.  Do you like my new stitch markers?  I bought them this morning - a little Easter present to myself!

Hope you have a lovely Easter weekend.

Spring/Summer

Just a few pictures from last weekend that I took in the garden and when we took the dog out for a walk in the fields at the back of our house.  Josh enjoyed helping Daddy do some woodwork in the garden to make a raised bed for the greenhouse to plant some lettuce leaves for starters.  Not sure what else we have planned to go in the raised bed yet.  (Josh would much rather use Daddy's tools than the child tool set he has!)
.
Yet again this week I have been doing some crafting but don't seem to have taken any pictures.  At the moment I am working on a baby cardigan as a sample for a friend's yarn shop.  Must try and take some pictures.

Hope you are all having a good week and enjoying the sun (if you have sun).

Long time

Why is it that time seems to fly by so quickly?  I have been meaning to write on my blog for the last two weeks.

Nearly two weeks ago we had a family get together at my parent's house for my Mum's and Alex's birthday.  Mum turned 65 and Alex 24.  We had a lovely lunch, a walk to the park and got back to Mum and Dad's and were preparing tea when Josh tripped on the rug and fell face down on the coffee table.  Unfortunately it meant a trip to casualty.  2 hours later and 5 steri strips we were back home - a bit shaken up and bruised.

Thankfully we are back to normal now and just have a small mark on our face which just looks like a scratch.

Since then we have had Mother's Day and look what greeted me when I came down to breakfast that morning.

The daffs are from the garden but the letters are all handmade by Alex and each letter took about 20 minutes to do (I think I may have given up after the first word)!  I also had a Cath Kidston bag which I have wanted for ages.

Just to show that after Josh's accident life is back to normal here are a couple of pictures of normal life in our household.

The top one is Josh's Den which he loves to sit in or hide in when you want him to do something and the bottom one is Josh's new climbing frame in the garden, well at least new to him it was a hand me down from his cousins.  He absolutely loves it.  He is out in the garden in the morning in his pyjamas at 8.10.

And just to show that spring is finally here.

Have no idea what they are?  They were in some woodland in the park near my parents house.

Hope you all have a good week and I hope to be back next week maybe with some knitting projects that I have been doing.

Long weekend

I know it is almost the next weekend and I have been meaning to write this post all week but the week just seems to disappear.

Last weekend unfortunately in one way we had to make a trip to Norfolk for a funeral but it was lovely to see some of the family and spend some time relaxing and talking with them.  It was two years since we last went to Norfolk and Josh was able to do and see so much more this time.

Like climbing Castle Mound in Thetford with Daddy while Mummy stayed at the bottom.  I was reliably informed that it was cold and windy at the top.  I think coming down he spent more time on his bottom, but had a great time.

And walking along the river to Nuns Bridges and doing some fishing with sticks!  It is his favourite thing at the moment.  Our house always has lots of sticks around that can be used as a 'Fishing Neck'  (fishing net).

Latest craft make which was made for a little girl friend of Josh's for her 4th Birthday on Monday.  The felted flower comes off the card and can be worn as a badge.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Half term

During half term we had a lovely easy week nothing really planned apart from toddler group on the tuesday so it seemed a very relaxed week.  Andy took the Wednesday off work and Josh took us to 'his' museum.   We then walked down towards the SS Great Britain and the harbour and had a walk along by the water.  They weather was amazing, even quite warm.

It was also Valentine's Day during half term and we didn't really go over board on this.  Really just a card each.  (Both homemade of course.)  The bottom pictures are the latest make I have done with felt for Josh.  He absolutely loves wearing it and I had to put a name label in it this morning so he could wear it to preschool.  It says 3 o'clock as he is 3 years old.  I have also been doing lots of knitting but that will do for another post.

And before I sign off for the moment - this is what Josh made at preschool the week before half term.  I had to take some pictures so that daddy could see it as it was eaten fairly quickly.

Hope you have a lovely week.

Cold

It is freezing here today but the sun is beautiful.  Didn't think it was too bad until I took Josh to preschool but the wind is really bitter.  And it doesn't look as if it is going to get any better - the forecast is for snow over the weekend.  I hate snow it stops you doing so many things and then freezes and becomes very dangerous.  Sorry moan over.

Well the cold also has it's ups, it does mean I get lots of knitting done and don't feel that I should be doing something else such as something in the garden.  Mind you knitting has not been terribly productive over the past week.  Josh was ill last week and so had to miss two days of preschool which mean't knitting was just done in the evenings.  Oh well it happens.  Thankfully no one else came down with whatever Josh had and he has happily gone back to preschool today.  So this is just a snapshot of what I/we have been doing since I last blogged.

Josh's new jumper which was finished just in time for my dad's birthday on sunday.

A friend asked if I could make a scarf for a friend of her's as a wedding present.  So I made an Ishbel shawl by Ysolda Teague in blue (as in the saying 'something borrowed, something blue') .

Both of these were fairly quick makes and easy to do in the evenings.

And for my niece's birthday about 3 days before my dad' s I made a little purse which I have made before but again loved making.  As usual I left it late to make it and ended up spending the weekend before making this.

Josh's latest thing is to go out on his scooter which does mean we do sometimes get to  places slightly quicker but once there is a hill I usually end up pulling him up.

Hope you are all well and surviving the cold weather.  Have a good day.

Happy New Year

I know I am behind by a week or so.  It has taken a little while to get back into the swing of things but we are getting there.  Josh is back at preschool and the others are back at work - so life is getting back to the usual routines.

Well we had a good Christmas despite colds, etc.  We went down to stay with Andy's mum in Exeter and the weather seemed very strange, very warm for this time of the year.  It was nice to spend some time just doing not a lot, slowing down and chilling.

Josh has taken to playing the piano and is very gentle in doing so.  Very little banging of the piano.  I think he has been watching his big brother and the way he plays.

Watching Harry Potter well until it got a bit too scary and both daddy and Josh needed a cushion.  Wearing the hat I had just finished knitting.

December also sees Josh's birthday on New Years Eve when we usually have a little get together with a birthday tea.  Josh has great fun and usually needs a little bit of calming down time at the end.

To recover from all this Mum invited us over for dinner  and Josh enjoyed wearing the hat from the cracker.  Mum always cooks his favourite dinner when we go over - Fish fingers and green beans! Yummy!

Still can't  believe he is 3 years old.  Where does the time go.

And to finish off will just leave you with some project pictures.

Christmas present for Mother in Law - Crofter Cowl by Gudrun Johnson and Peerie Flooers by Kate Davies.

Well I think that had better be it for now.  Don't want to bore you completely.

Have a good few days
